A good candidate is in stable general health, at a steady weight for body procedures, a non-smoker or willing to stop, and has realistic expectations. A surgeon may postpone or advise against surgery with uncontrolled diabetes or blood pressure, a history of blood clots, recent large weight changes, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or when the goal is not achievable. Share your full medical history honestly, because it shapes what is safe for you.

Your surgeon decides, but you are usually asked to stay for the first checks, dressing or splint changes and a wound review, often around a week or more after major procedures. Combined operations or a long-haul flight to North America or the Gulf may mean a longer stay. Flying soon after surgery raises the risk of blood clots, so ask the surgeon about walking, fluids and compression stockings for the journey.

Send clear, well-lit photos of the area from the front, both sides and at an angle, without filters, plus a few examples of the result you have in mind. Add your height and weight for body procedures, previous surgery in the area, medical conditions, medicines and supplements, allergies and smoking status. The partner surgeon uses this to say whether the procedure suits you, which technique fits and what a realistic result looks like.

Ask for the surgeon’s full name and confirm they are a specialist in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, not a doctor from another field. Ask how often they perform your procedure, which hospital and type of anaesthesia will be used, and who looks after you if a complication arises. Meeting the surgeon in person before the day of surgery is a reasonable request. Your written plan should name both the surgeon and the hospital.

Swelling and bruising usually settle over the first weeks, but the final result takes longer: after rhinoplasty, the nose can take a year or more to refine fully. You may need a compression garment after body procedures and should avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise until your surgeon says otherwise. Tell your family doctor about the operation before you travel, so a local doctor can check wounds and act quickly if needed.
