These treatments are usually postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with an active skin infection or cold sore in the area, and may be unsuitable with certain neuromuscular or autoimmune conditions or a history of severe allergic reactions. Tell the clinician about medicines and supplements that raise bruising risk, such as blood thinners, aspirin or fish oil, about previous fillers or implants in the face, and about any planned dental work.

Often you can, as most of these treatments need little downtime, but plan for some redness, swelling or bruising, which can last a few days. Fractional laser and deeper microneedling can leave the skin red and peeling for longer, so many people schedule them early in the trip. Ask the clinician about timing before flying, avoid alcohol and strenuous exercise for as long as advised, and protect treated skin from strong sun.

It depends on your skin type, the kind of scar or pigmentation, and the device used. Darker skin can react to some lasers with lighter or darker patches, so the clinician should choose settings and devices that suit it and may suggest a test patch. Acne scars and texture problems usually need a course of sessions spaced weeks apart, which may mean several trips. Send clear photos in natural light for a first opinion.

Ask for the clinician’s name and qualification, as injections should be given by a licensed doctor trained in aesthetic medicine or dermatology. Ask which products are used, whether a filler is hyaluronic acid and therefore dissolvable, and ask to see the packaging. Request a written record of products, amounts and areas treated, so a clinician at home knows exactly what was done. Avoid permanent fillers unless you fully understand their long-term risks.

Avoid pressing or massaging treated areas unless advised, and use sun protection daily after laser or microneedling. Botulinum toxin takes several days to show its full effect, and filler swelling settles over a couple of weeks, so judge the result after that. Small adjustments can often be made later, and hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved. Seek urgent care for skin that turns pale, dusky or very painful after filler, or any change in vision.
