RIRS is one option: a thin, flexible scope passes up the urinary tract and a laser breaks up the stone, without any incision. Whether it suits you depends on the stone’s size, position and hardness and on your kidney anatomy, so a CT scan is usually needed. Small stones may pass on their own or suit other treatments. Severe pain with a fever needs urgent care at home before any travel.

Sometimes. After RIRS a temporary ureteral stent may be left in place, and after robotic prostate surgery a urinary catheter is used for a period. Ask the partner urologist before you book when it will come out, and whether that happens in Istanbul or must be arranged with a urologist at home. A stent must never be forgotten, so keep the discharge letter that records it and its planned removal date.

Send the imaging that led to the diagnosis, ideally the original CT, MRI or ultrasound image files, plus biopsy and pathology reports, recent PSA or kidney function results and your urologist’s letters. Add other conditions, medicines, especially blood thinners, and any previous abdominal surgery. If cancer has been diagnosed, a partner urologist can give a second opinion for you to discuss with your own urologist, who stays central to your care.

It depends on the operation and your recovery, and the partner urologist gives you a plan. Laser stone treatment often means a short hospital stay, while robotic prostate or kidney surgery usually needs several days in hospital and further time nearby before flying. Allow for a check-up before departure and, if needed, stent or catheter removal. Plan extra days if you are flying long-haul, for example to North America.

Yes, a partner urologist can assess problems such as erectile dysfunction, low testosterone or fertility concerns, which often need blood tests, an examination and sometimes an ultrasound. These symptoms can be linked to heart disease, diabetes or hormone problems, so the assessment looks at your general health too. Bring your medicines list and earlier test results. Ongoing treatment usually continues with your own doctor, so ask for a written report to take home.
