Quick answer

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is surgery that raises sagging breasts by removing excess skin, reshaping the breast tissue and moving the nipple and areola higher. On its own it does not add much volume, so an implant is sometimes added. A breast lift in Turkey usually takes 1–3 hours under general anaesthesia, typically with one night in hospital and about 7 days in Istanbul.

Breast Lift in Istanbul: overview

A breast lift, or mastopexy, raises breasts that have dropped after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or with age. The surgeon removes excess skin, reshapes the breast tissue and moves the nipple and areola higher, but a lift alone does not make the breasts much fuller. For a breast lift in Turkey, Med World Türkiye coordinates your treatment with independent, licensed partner plastic surgeons who operate in JCI-accredited partner hospitals in Istanbul. Before you travel, a partner surgeon reviews your photos and medical history and suggests which incision pattern is likely to suit you, and whether an implant is worth considering.

A breast lift always leaves scars, and their length depends on how much lifting is needed: around the areola only, around it and down to the crease, or along the crease as well. You wear a support bra for several weeks and avoid heavy lifting for around 6 weeks, and the scars fade gradually over a year or more. Risks include changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry, slow healing where the scars meet and, rarely, loss of part of the nipple’s blood supply. Many people can still breastfeed after a lift, but this cannot be promised. We organise the surrounding logistics – airport transfers, a hotel near the hospital, an interpreter and remote aftercare follow-up – so you can focus on recovery.

Which Breast Lift techniques are available?

Periareolar (donut) lift

The incision runs only around the edge of the areola, and a ring of skin is removed so the nipple can be raised slightly and the areola made smaller. It leaves the shortest scar but gives only a modest lift, so it suits mild sagging; with more excess skin it can flatten the breast or let the areola stretch over time.

Vertical (lollipop) lift

The incision goes around the areola and straight down to the breast crease. It lets the surgeon reshape and narrow the breast as well as raise the nipple, and suits moderate sagging. It is a commonly used pattern, and the vertical scar usually fades well, although the final shape takes some months to settle.

Anchor (inverted-T) lift

The anchor pattern adds a third incision along the breast crease to the lollipop scar. It removes the most skin and suits significant sagging, often after major weight loss or several pregnancies. The scars are longer, and the point where the vertical and horizontal scars meet is the area most prone to slow healing.

Breast lift with implants (augmentation-mastopexy)

When the breasts have lost volume as well as dropped, an implant can restore fullness in the upper breast while the lift corrects the sagging. It is a more complex operation with a higher chance of needing revision surgery, so some surgeons prefer to do it in two stages. Fat transfer is sometimes used instead for a small increase in volume.

Why choose Med World Türkiye for Breast Lift?

  • Surgeon review before you travel

A partner plastic surgeon reviews your photos and medical history, assesses how low the nipples sit and suggests an incision pattern, and whether an implant makes sense, before you book.

  • JCI-accredited partner hospitals

Surgery takes place in JCI-accredited partner hospitals, under general anaesthesia given by an anaesthetist, usually with an overnight stay for monitoring.

  • Itemised written quote

The written quote from the partner hospital lists the lift technique, any implant by brand and type, the hospital stay and every other cost before you book anything, so you can see exactly what is and is not included.

  • One coordinated plan and aftercare

One coordinator arranges the consultation, surgery, hotel and transfers, and after you fly home passes your photos and questions to the partner surgeon for wound and scar follow-up.

Who is a good candidate for Breast Lift?

  • Adults whose breasts have dropped or lost shape after pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss or with age, or whose nipples point downwards or sit at or below the breast crease.
  • People whose weight has been stable for some months, as later weight loss or gain can change the shape of the breasts and the result of the lift.
  • Non-smokers, or smokers able to stop before and after surgery for as long as the surgeon advises, as smoking raises the risk of wound-healing problems.
  • Women who are not pregnant or breastfeeding and have thought about future pregnancies, which can stretch the breasts again; many surgeons suggest waiting until you have finished having children.
  • Surgery is not a good idea if you have an uninvestigated breast lump or abnormal screening result, an uncontrolled medical condition, are planning a pregnancy soon, or are not prepared to accept visible scars.

Breast Lift: is it right for me?

Questions people ask us in their own words, with straight answers.

I have darker skin and I’ve had keloid scars before. Will a breast lift scar badly on me, and is it still worth doing?

It depends on your own scar history, so raise it early. Every breast lift leaves scars, and people who have formed keloids or thick, raised scars before, as well as people with darker skin, are more likely to form them again. That does not always rule surgery out, but it can affect the incision pattern, how the wound is closed and the scar care afterwards, such as silicone gel or sheets and sun protection once the wounds have healed. Send photos of earlier scars along with your breast photos, so the partner surgeon can explain honestly what to expect before you decide.

I have a toddler I pick up all day. How will I cope after a breast lift, and when can I safely lift her again?

Plan for help, because lifting a child is the kind of strain surgeons ask you to avoid. The first week brings soreness and tightness, and for around 6 weeks you should avoid heavy lifting and upper-body effort. Arrange for another adult to lift your toddler, handle baths and car seats for those weeks, and keep cuddles to sitting down with your child climbing onto your lap. When you can lift again depends on how you heal, so ask your surgeon at your check-ups. If that kind of help is hard to arrange right now, it may be worth choosing a later date.

I’ve lost a lot of weight on Ozempic and I’m still losing. Should I book my breast lift now or wait until my weight settles?

Usually it is better to wait. Surgeons generally prefer your weight to have been stable for some months before a breast lift, because further weight loss can change the size and shape of the breasts and loosen the result. If you are still losing weight on a weight-loss medicine, tell the surgeon which one and what you plan to do with it, as some of these medicines also matter for anaesthesia. Once your weight has settled, send updated photos and your medical history, and the surgeon can judge whether a lift alone or a lift with an implant suits the volume you have left.

What happens if one breast heals differently or sits lower than the other once I’m back home in Spain? Can anything be done remotely?

Some difference between the sides is normal at first, because swelling and settling rarely happen evenly, and breasts are seldom identical before surgery either. The shape keeps changing over several months, so the result is judged once it has settled. After you fly home, send photos and questions through your coordinator, and they are passed to the partner surgeon, who can say whether it looks like normal healing. If a clear difference remains once healing is complete, the surgeon can discuss whether a revision makes sense. Fever, increasing redness, wound discharge or sudden swelling on one side need prompt attention from a local doctor.

My breasts already sag but I want another baby in a few years. Is there any point in a lift now, and could I still breastfeed?

You can, but many surgeons suggest waiting until you have finished having children, because pregnancy and breastfeeding can stretch the breasts again and undo part of the lift. If the sagging bothers you a lot now, a lift is still possible, as long as you accept that you may want further surgery later. Many people can breastfeed after a lift, but this cannot be promised. You should not have surgery while pregnant or breastfeeding, and should plan it once your breasts have settled after breastfeeding. Tell the surgeon about your plans when you send your photos, so the advice on timing fits your life.

My nipples point down quite a lot, but I want the smallest scar possible. Can I just have the lift around the areola only?

Often not. A lift around the areola only, the periareolar or donut lift, gives a modest lift and suits mild sagging. When the nipples sit low and point downwards, it can flatten the breast or let the areola stretch over time. A vertical (lollipop) lift or an anchor lift removes more skin and reshapes the breast, in exchange for longer scars that usually fade over a year or more. The right pattern depends on how far the nipple needs to move and how much loose skin there is. Send photos from the front and side, and the surgeon can suggest a likely pattern and where the scars would sit.

What does a Breast Lift trip to Istanbul look like?

  1. 1

Before travel – Photos & surgeon review

You send photos of your breasts from the front and side, your medical history, any recent breast screening results and your goals. A partner plastic surgeon reviews them, and you receive a written plan and an itemised quote before you book anything.

  2. 2

    Day 1 – Arrival & consultation

After an airport transfer to your hotel, the surgeon examines you, takes measurements, marks the planned incisions and explains where the scars will sit and whether an implant is advised. Blood tests and an anaesthetic assessment follow before you sign the consent form.

  3. 3

    Day 2 – Surgery & hospital night

A breast lift usually takes 1–3 hours under general anaesthesia, and longer when an implant is added. You normally stay one night in hospital and leave wearing a support bra, with instructions for wound care and pain relief.

  4. 4

    Days 3–7 – Check-ups & flying home

You rest at the hotel, take short walks and attend wound checks. Surgeons usually advise not flying for about a week after major surgery and recommend compression stockings and moving around during the flight; your surgeon confirms when you are fit to fly, so a flexible return ticket is sensible.

What is recovery like after Breast Lift?

Recovery after a breast lift is gradual. In the first week, expect soreness, swelling, bruising and tightness; you wear a support bra day and night, sleep on your back with your upper body raised and take short walks to help prevent blood clots. Stitches either dissolve or are removed at a check-up, and desk work is usually possible after about 2 weeks. Do not drive until you can wear a seatbelt and brake hard comfortably. For around 6 weeks, avoid heavy lifting, upper-body exercise and sleeping on your front, and keep wearing the support bra as advised. The breasts often look high and firm at first and settle into their final shape over several months. Nipple sensation may be reduced or heightened for a while and usually, but not always, returns. Once the wounds have healed, silicone gel or sheets and sun protection help the scars, which fade over a year or more. Contact the surgeon promptly about fever, increasing redness or pain, wound discharge, a darkening nipple or sudden swelling on one side.

Breast Lift in Turkey: how much does it cost?

The price of a breast lift in Turkey depends mainly on the technique – periareolar, vertical or anchor – and on whether an implant or fat transfer is added, including the implant brand and type. The partner surgeon, the partner hospital, nights in hospital and in the hotel, and any combined procedures also affect the total. Treatment in Turkey often costs less than private treatment in countries such as the US, Canada, the UK and much of Western Europe, mainly because of lower operating costs, but price should never be the only reason to choose a surgeon. With Med World Türkiye, a partner plastic surgeon first reviews your photos and medical history; you then receive a written, itemised quote from the partner hospital before you book anything.

What your written quote itemises

  • Surgeon and anaesthesia fees
  • Hospital stay, operating theatre and pre-operative tests
  • Implant brand, type and size, if one is used
  • Support bra, dressings and medication
  • Hotel accommodation and airport transfers, if requested
  • Interpreter and remote aftercare follow-up

Med World Türkiye does not publish a price list. Every price comes from a written, itemised quote issued by the partner hospital after a surgeon has reviewed your photos, scans or medical records.

Breast Lift: frequently asked questions

How much does a breast lift cost in Turkey?

The cost of a breast lift in Turkey depends on the technique (periareolar, vertical or anchor), whether an implant is added and which brand and type, the partner surgeon and hospital, nights in hospital and in the hotel, and any combined procedures. The surgeon review is free: you send photos and your medical history, a partner plastic surgeon reviews them, and you then receive a written, itemised quote from the partner hospital before you book anything.

Is a breast lift in Turkey safe?

A breast lift in Turkey can be safe when it is performed by a qualified plastic surgeon in an accredited hospital with proper anaesthetic care. Med World Türkiye works with partner surgeons in JCI-accredited hospitals. As with any surgery, risks exist, including bleeding, infection, wound-healing problems, poor or stretched scars, asymmetry, changes in nipple sensation, blood clots and, rarely, loss of part of the nipple or areola. Adding an implant brings implant-related risks as well. Smoking raises the risk of wound-healing problems.

How long should I stay in Istanbul for a breast lift?

Plan to stay in Istanbul for about 7 days for a breast lift. This usually covers the consultation on arrival, surgery with one night in hospital, and wound checks over the following days before your surgeon confirms you are fit to fly. A lift with implants or combined procedures, such as a breast lift with a tummy tuck, can need a longer stay, so a flexible return ticket is sensible.

How long is recovery after a breast lift?

Most people return to desk work after about 2 weeks, and the first week brings soreness, swelling and tightness. You wear a support bra for several weeks and avoid heavy lifting, upper-body exercise and sleeping on your front for around 6 weeks, or until your surgeon agrees. Flying home is usually possible about a week after surgery, once your surgeon confirms you are fit to fly. The breasts settle into their final shape over several months.

How long do breast lift results last?

A breast lift gives a long-lasting improvement, but it does not stop the breasts from ageing. Gravity, skin elasticity, weight changes and future pregnancies can all cause some sagging again over the years, and heavier breasts or larger implants tend to drop sooner. Keeping your weight stable, wearing a supportive bra and not smoking help the result last. Some people choose a further lift many years later; your surgeon can explain what to expect for your skin.

Does a breast lift leave scars, and is it painful?

Yes, every breast lift leaves scars: around the areola, often down to the crease and sometimes along the crease, depending on the technique. They are red and raised at first and usually fade to paler lines over a year or more, although some people form thicker scars. Discomfort is usually strongest in the first few days and is managed with prescribed pain relief; tightness and tenderness then ease gradually over the following weeks.

Should I have a breast lift alone or a breast lift with implants?

A lift alone suits breasts that have dropped but still have a volume you are happy with: it raises the nipple and reshapes the breast without making it bigger. A breast lift with implants suits breasts that have also lost fullness, especially in the upper part, after pregnancy or weight loss. The combination is more complex, has a higher chance of revision surgery and is sometimes done in two stages. Your surgeon advises after reviewing your photos and examining you.

How do I choose a breast lift surgeon in Turkey I can trust?

Choose a board-certified plastic surgeon who performs breast lifts regularly, and ask which incision pattern they suggest and why, and whether an implant is really needed. A careful surgeon explains the likely scars, asks about plans for pregnancy or weight loss and does not promise a fixed result. The operation should take place in an accredited hospital with an anaesthetist. Ask to see their own before-and-after photos, shared with consent. Through Med World Türkiye, your written plan names the partner surgeon and hospital, and you can show it to a doctor at home before you agree.
