Quick answer

What is vaginoplasty?

Vaginoplasty, also called vaginal tightening surgery, is an operation that narrows and strengthens the vaginal canal by tightening the underlying muscles and removing excess lining, usually to treat laxity after childbirth or ageing. It is often combined with perineoplasty. In Turkey it takes 1–2 hours under general or spinal anaesthesia, with about 7 days in Istanbul.

Vaginoplasty in Istanbul: overview

Vaginoplasty is a surgical treatment for vaginal laxity, the feeling that the vagina has become wider or looser, most often after one or more vaginal births or because of age-related changes in muscle and connective tissue. Women describe reduced sensation during intercourse, tampons that slip, air entering the vagina or a sense of heaviness. This page covers cosmetic and functional vaginal tightening for women. It does not cover gender-affirming vaginoplasty, which is a different operation with its own specialist pathway.

Med World Türkiye arranges vaginoplasty in Istanbul with partner gynaecologists and urogynaecologists in JCI-accredited hospitals. Your surgeon examines the vaginal walls, perineum and pelvic floor, because laxity often coexists with a rectocele or cystocele that should be repaired at the same time. Surgery is usually a posterior colporrhaphy combined with perineoplasty to rebuild the back wall and entrance. If laxity is mild, non-surgical laser or RF may be suggested first, as explained on our vaginal aesthetics page; changes to the external labia are covered on our genital aesthetics page.

Which Vaginoplasty techniques are available?

Posterior colporrhaphy (vaginal tightening)

The surgeon removes excess vaginal lining along the back wall and brings the underlying muscles and fascia together, narrowing the canal. It forms the core of most cosmetic vaginoplasty and suits women with laxity after vaginal childbirth.

Perineoplasty

Perineoplasty rebuilds the perineal body between the vagina and anus, narrowing a widened vaginal opening and repairing old tears or episiotomy scars. Within vaginoplasty it is usually combined with posterior colporrhaphy for a more complete repair.

Rectocele and cystocele repair

When the rectum or bladder bulges into the vaginal wall, a urogynaecologist repairs the supporting fascia to restore its position. It is recommended for women who have pelvic pressure, a visible bulge, or bowel or bladder symptoms alongside laxity.

Combined vaginoplasty and labiaplasty

Some women choose to treat internal laxity and the external labia under a single anaesthetic. Combining procedures means one overall recovery, although the operation is longer and the price is higher.

Why choose Med World Türkiye for Vaginoplasty?

  • Structural repair, not surface treatment

Surgery tightens the underlying muscles and supporting tissue, which is why it suits moderate to significant laxity that laser or radiofrequency cannot correct.

  • Pelvic floor treated together

A urogynaecologist can repair a rectocele or cystocele during the same operation, so support and tightening are addressed in one recovery.

  • Improved comfort and confidence

Many women report better friction and comfort during intercourse once healed, although sexual outcomes depend on many factors and results vary.

  • One night in hospital

Most patients are discharged the morning after a 1–2 hour operation and return to desk work after about a week.

Who is a good candidate for Vaginoplasty?

  • Women with moderate to significant vaginal laxity after vaginal childbirth or with ageing.
  • Those who have completed their family, as a future vaginal birth can stretch the repair again.
  • Women with a widened vaginal opening, old perineal tears or a poorly healed episiotomy.
  • Patients with a mild rectocele or cystocele who want support and tightening repaired together.
  • Healthy non-smokers who are not pregnant, have normal cervical screening and realistic expectations.

What does a Vaginoplasty trip to Istanbul look like?

  1. 1

    Day 1 – Arrival & consultation

After a VIP airport transfer, you have a private gynaecological examination and pelvic floor assessment, followed by blood tests and an anaesthetic review.

  2. 2

    Day 2 – Surgery & hospital night

Vaginoplasty takes 1–2 hours under general or spinal anaesthesia, and you stay one night in hospital for pain control and monitoring.

  3. 3

    Days 3–6 – Hotel recovery

You rest at the hotel, walk gently several times a day and keep the area clean, with a check-up visit to review healing.

  4. 4

Day 7 – Final check & flight home

The surgeon confirms you are fit to fly and gives written aftercare instructions, and follow-up continues remotely by video call.

What is recovery like after Vaginoplasty?

Recovery after vaginoplasty takes several weeks, even though the hospital stay is short. In the first week, swelling, soreness and light bleeding or discharge are expected; prescribed pain relief, stool softeners and gentle walking help, and long periods of sitting should be avoided. Most women return to desk work after about one week. Over the first month the dissolvable stitches absorb and discomfort fades, but tampons, intercourse, swimming and heavy lifting must wait 6–8 weeks. At around three months the tissues have softened and the final result is reached. Risks include bleeding, infection, pain during intercourse if the vagina is narrowed too much, and recurrence after a future vaginal birth.

How much does Vaginoplasty cost in Turkey?

The price of vaginoplasty in Turkey depends on the extent of the repair: whether perineoplasty, rectocele or cystocele repair is needed, and whether labiaplasty is combined in the same operation. The type of anaesthesia, the partner hospital and the length of hospital stay also affect the total. With Med World Türkiye, a partner gynaecologist first reviews your history and any previous medical reports; you then receive a written, itemised quote from the partner hospital before you book anything, and the final plan is confirmed after examination.

What your written quote itemises

  • Surgeon and anaesthesia fees
  • One night hospital stay
  • Pre-operative tests
  • Medication and aftercare kit
  • Hotel and VIP transfers, if requested
  • Interpreter and remote follow-up

Med World Türkiye does not publish a price list. Every price comes from a written, itemised quote issued by the partner hospital after a surgeon has reviewed your photos, scans or medical records.

Vaginoplasty: frequently asked questions

How much does vaginoplasty cost in Turkey?

The cost of vaginoplasty in Turkey depends on whether perineoplasty, rectocele or cystocele repair is needed, whether labiaplasty is combined, the type of anaesthesia and the length of hospital stay. The initial consultation is free: a partner gynaecologist reviews your history, and you then receive a written, itemised quote from the partner hospital before you book. The quote typically lists surgery, anaesthesia, a hospital night, tests, medication and, if requested, hotel and transfers. The final plan is confirmed after examination.

Is vaginoplasty in Istanbul safe?

Vaginoplasty in Istanbul is generally safe when performed by an experienced gynaecologist or urogynaecologist in an accredited hospital. As with all surgery there are risks, including bleeding, infection, wound-healing problems, scarring, pain during intercourse and, rarely, injury to the bladder or rectum. Careful pelvic floor assessment and avoiding over-tightening reduce these risks. Our partner hospitals are JCI-accredited.

How long do I need to stay in Turkey for vaginoplasty?

Plan to stay about 7 days in Turkey for vaginoplasty. You arrive and have your consultation on day 1, surgery on day 2 with one night in hospital, and rest at the hotel until a final check around day 7. Wearing compression stockings, walking the aisle and drinking water on the flight home help reduce the risk of blood clots.

How painful is recovery after vaginoplasty?

Recovery after vaginoplasty usually involves moderate pain and pressure for the first 3–7 days, which is controlled with prescribed painkillers. Sitting can be uncomfortable for 1–2 weeks, and a soft cushion helps. Most women feel well enough for desk work after about a week, but should avoid intercourse, tampons and heavy lifting for 6–8 weeks to protect the repair.

How long do vaginoplasty results last?

Vaginoplasty results are long-lasting for most women, with the final result visible at around three months. However, a later vaginal birth can stretch the tissues again, and ageing and menopause continue to affect tone and elasticity. Pelvic floor exercises and, after menopause, treatment for vaginal dryness can help maintain the result. Results vary between individuals.

When is the right time to have vaginoplasty?

The right time for vaginoplasty is usually after you have finished having children, because a future vaginal delivery can undo the tightening. Surgeons usually advise waiting at least 6 months after your last birth and until breastfeeding has ended, so the tissues have recovered. Vaginoplasty is for adults only, and there is no upper age limit for healthy women.

Should I choose vaginoplasty or laser vaginal tightening?

Laser or radiofrequency is usually suggested for mild laxity, while vaginoplasty is preferred for moderate to significant laxity, a widened opening or pelvic floor damage. Energy-based treatments stimulate collagen without surgery, but their effect is modest and temporary. Surgery physically tightens muscle and tissue, giving a more pronounced and lasting change with a longer recovery. A gynaecological examination shows which option fits you.
