Quick answer
What is genital aesthetic surgery?
Genital aesthetic surgery is a group of procedures that reshape the external female genitalia, the vulva, for comfort, function or appearance. The most common is labiaplasty, which reduces enlarged or asymmetric labia minora; others include clitoral hood reduction, labia majora reshaping, monsplasty and perineoplasty. In Turkey, labiaplasty needs a 5–7 day stay.

Genital Aesthetics in Istanbul: overview
Genital aesthetic surgery focuses on the external vulva: the labia minora, labia majora, clitoral hood, mons pubis and perineum. Women seek it for many reasons, including labia that twist or chafe in tight clothing, discomfort when cycling, riding or exercising, difficulty with hygiene, pain during intercourse, noticeable asymmetry, or changes after childbirth and ageing. Variation in labial size is entirely normal and surgery is never medically required for it, but when anatomy causes physical discomfort or distress, a carefully planned procedure can make everyday life more comfortable.
In Istanbul, Med World Türkiye coordinates these procedures with partner gynaecologists and plastic surgeons who perform intimate surgery regularly in JCI-accredited hospitals. The consultation starts with a private examination and an open conversation about what you want to change and why. This page covers external surgery only: internal vaginal tightening is explained on the vaginoplasty page, non-surgical laser and RF on the vaginal aesthetics page, and pigmentation on the genital whitening page. Your surgeon explains which technique suits your anatomy and what is realistic.
Which Genital Aesthetics techniques are available?
Labiaplasty: trim and wedge techniques
The trim, or edge resection, technique removes excess tissue along the outer edge of the labia minora and suits women who want to remove dark or irregular edges. The wedge technique removes a V-shaped section from the centre of the labia and preserves the natural edge, contour and colour.
Clitoral hood reduction
This removes excess folds of skin around the clitoral hood and is often combined with labiaplasty so the area looks proportionate once the labia are reduced. The clitoris itself is not altered.
Labia majora augmentation or reduction
Deflated outer labia can be restored with your own fat (fat transfer) or hyaluronic acid filler, while excess or sagging skin can be surgically reduced. It suits women with volume loss after weight loss, childbirth or ageing.
Monsplasty and perineoplasty
Monsplasty lifts or reduces a prominent or sagging mons pubis, often with liposuction. Perineoplasty repairs and reshapes the perineum after childbirth tears or an episiotomy, improving comfort and the appearance of the vaginal entrance.
Why choose Med World Türkiye for Genital Aesthetics?
Relief from chafing and discomfort
Reducing enlarged labia minora can ease rubbing, twisting and irritation during sport, cycling and in fitted clothing.
Technique matched to anatomy
Surgeons choose between trim, wedge and combined techniques according to your labial shape, edge colour and clitoral hood, rather than using one method for everyone.
Short procedure, quick return
Most operations take 1–2 hours with same-day discharge, and many women return to desk work within 3–7 days.
Discreet, dissolvable sutures
Fine absorbable stitches mean no suture removal, and incisions follow natural folds where they usually heal inconspicuously.
Who is a good candidate for Genital Aesthetics?
- Women aged 18 or over whose labia cause chafing, twisting or discomfort in clothing, during sport or when cycling.
- Those who experience pain or tugging of the labia during intercourse, or difficulty with hygiene.
- Women with noticeable labial asymmetry, or changes after childbirth, weight loss or ageing.
- Patients with a painful or poorly healed episiotomy or perineal tear scar.
- Healthy non-smokers who are not pregnant, have realistic expectations and are choosing surgery for themselves rather than under pressure.
What does a Genital Aesthetics trip to Istanbul look like?
- 1
Day 1 – Arrival & consultation
You are met at the airport and taken to your hotel, then attend a private consultation and examination with your surgeon, followed by pre-operative tests.
- 2
Day 2 – Surgery
The procedure takes 1–2 hours under local anaesthesia with sedation or general anaesthesia, and most women return to the hotel the same day.
- 3
Days 3–5 – Rest & check-up
You rest with cold packs, loose clothing and prescribed pain relief, and the surgeon checks the wound at a follow-up visit.
- 4
Days 5–7 – Clearance & flight home
After a final check you receive written aftercare instructions and travel home, with remote follow-up by photo or video call.
What is recovery like after Genital Aesthetics?
Recovery after labiaplasty and related surgery is usually straightforward but needs patience. In the first week, swelling and tenderness are normal and peak at 48–72 hours; cold packs, loose cotton underwear and gentle rinsing after using the toilet help. Most women return to desk work within 3–7 days, and dissolvable sutures disappear over 2–4 weeks. At one month swelling has largely subsided, but intercourse, tampons, swimming, cycling and strenuous exercise should wait about 6 weeks. By three months the tissue has softened and the final result is visible, although minor asymmetry can remain. Possible complications include bleeding, wound separation, infection and altered sensation.
How much does Genital Aesthetics cost in Turkey?
The price of labiaplasty and related surgery in Turkey depends on the number of areas treated, for example labiaplasty alone or combined with clitoral hood reduction, labia majora work or perineoplasty, as well as the technique, the type of anaesthesia and whether fat transfer or filler is used. The partner hospital and whether you stay overnight also affect the total. With Med World Türkiye, a partner surgeon first reviews your history and, if you wish, confidential photos; you then receive a written, itemised quote from the partner hospital before you book anything.
What your written quote itemises
- Surgeon and anaesthesia fees
- Operating theatre and day-case care
- Pre-operative tests
- Pain relief and aftercare kit
- Hotel and VIP transfers, if requested
- Interpreter and remote follow-up
Med World Türkiye does not publish a price list. Every price comes from a written, itemised quote issued by the partner hospital after a surgeon has reviewed your photos, scans or medical records.
Genital Aesthetics: frequently asked questions
How much does labiaplasty cost in Turkey?
The cost of labiaplasty in Turkey depends on the number of areas treated, such as labiaplasty alone or combined with clitoral hood reduction, labia majora work or perineoplasty, as well as the technique, the type of anaesthesia and whether fat transfer or filler is used. The initial consultation is free: a partner surgeon reviews your history, and you then receive a written, itemised quote from the partner hospital before you book. The quote typically lists surgery, anaesthesia, tests, medication and, if requested, hotel and transfers.
Is labiaplasty in Istanbul safe?
Labiaplasty in Istanbul is generally safe when performed by an experienced gynaecologist or plastic surgeon in an accredited hospital. Complications are uncommon but include bleeding, haematoma, infection, wound separation, scarring, asymmetry and changes in sensation, and removing too much tissue is difficult to correct. Choosing a surgeon who performs intimate surgery regularly and following aftercare instructions reduce these risks. Our partner hospitals are JCI-accredited.
How long do I need to stay in Turkey after labiaplasty?
Most patients stay in Turkey for 5–7 days for labiaplasty. Surgery usually takes place the day after arrival, followed by several days of rest and a check-up before the surgeon clears you to fly. Sitting through a long flight can be uncomfortable at first, so a soft cushion and loose clothing are recommended. Dissolvable sutures mean you do not need to return for stitch removal.
Is labiaplasty painful?
Labiaplasty is performed under anaesthesia, so you do not feel the operation, and discomfort afterwards is usually moderate. Soreness, swelling and stinging when passing urine are common for the first 3–5 days and are managed with prescribed painkillers, cold packs and, if recommended, a numbing gel. Sitting directly on the area may feel uncomfortable for 1–2 weeks.
How long do labiaplasty results last?
Labiaplasty results are generally long-lasting because removed tissue does not grow back, and the final shape is visible at around three months once swelling settles. However, pregnancy, vaginal childbirth, significant weight change and ageing can alter the area later. Labia majora filler is temporary, typically lasting 12–18 months, while fat transfer lasts longer but is partly reabsorbed.
What is the minimum age for labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is offered to adults aged 18 and over, once genital development is complete and the decision is your own. Many surgeons suggest waiting until after childbirth if you plan more children, because vaginal delivery can change the area again. There is no upper age limit for healthy women. Surgeons also check that the motivation is not driven by a partner's pressure or unrealistic images.
Which labiaplasty technique is better, trim or wedge?
Neither labiaplasty technique is better for everyone; the right choice depends on your anatomy and goals. The trim method reliably removes dark or uneven edges and is technically simpler, while the wedge method keeps the natural edge and colour but carries a somewhat higher risk of wound separation. Some surgeons use a combined or curved approach. Your surgeon explains the trade-offs after examining you.
